A delegation led by UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for Azerbaijan Baroness Emma Nicholson held negotiations at the Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), the company informed on February 14.
During the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with cooperation of Azerbaijan and UK in the political and economic spheres.
Cooperation with UK companies dates back to 1999 when upon national leader Heydar Aliyev’s instructions Azerbaijan obtained Boeing 757 aircraft equipped with engines of UK company Rolls-Royce.
Currently, part of AZAL and Silk Way Airlines’ fleets is equipped with Rolls-Royce engines, which is one of the leaders of the world industry. Such large-scale projects have turned Azerbaijan’s civil aviation into one of the largest industries in which UK companies are involved.
It was noted during the meeting that London was one of the first international destinations of Azerbaijan Airlines. Presently, flights in this direction are operated using the state-of-the-art aircraft Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Baroness Nicholson stressed that Azerbaijan’s civil aviation has great potential and is very attractive for the activity of UK producers and investors.
At the end, the sides expressed hope for further successful cooperation with UK companies in this field.
AZAL, a major air carrier and one of the leaders of the aviation community of CIS countries, is one of the main airline companies not only in the region but also across the globe. Total route network of the airline is around 40 destinations in 25 countries. In 2017, Azerbaijan Airlines carried 2.2 million passengers, and the number of its flights is increasing.
