Dubai: Around 2,200 students and teachers were evacuated from a school after a fire broke out in a classroom air-condition unit, Dubai Civil Defence said on Thursday.
A Dubai Civil Defence spokesperson said the fire started around 11.50am at Gulf National school in the Al Garhoud area. Firefighters arrived at the school at 11.55am.
“There was thick smoke from the air-condition in class room on first floor. We evacuated the students and teachers and controlled the fire at 12:40pm without injuries. It moderate fire and caused panic among students and staff,” the spokesperson said.
Firefighters from Al Rashidiya, Port Saeed, Al Karama and Al Ras stations responded to the blaze.
Civil Defence said the drills and training of the school staff helped to ease the evacuation and follow the safety instructions.
