Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said Wednesday that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will visit Turkey to discuss situation in Syria’s Idlib, as discussions continue to determine the fate of the war-torn city.

Speaking to TRT Haber channel, Çavuşoğlu said that the issue of Idlib is extremely important for Turkey. He noted that technical talks between Turkey, Russia and Iran are still ongoing and added that a political solution will be the next step after ceasefire is guaranteed.

“Turkey believes political solution is the best option” the foreign minister added.

Çavuşoğlu also said that Russia understands Turkey’s sensitivities regarding the Syrian offshoot of the PKK terrorist organization People’s Protection Units (YPG) than the United States.
