Belarus is set to open a technology transfer center in Egypt, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Vladimir Gusakov told reporters ahead of the opening ceremony of the joint Belarusian-Egyptian seminar on cooperation in science and technology on 11 May, BelTA has learned. “Today we are hosting a large delegation of Egyptian scientists. We have already had preliminary talks with the president of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and identified a range of potential cooperation areas and projects. We agreed to set up a technology transfer center, a branch of our Academy of Sciences in Egypt, that would facilitate the transfer of technology and solutions developed by Belarusian scientists to Egypt. Plans have been made to open the center in Cairo. Belarusian and Egyptian specialists will work there,” Vladimir Gusakov said.
He spoke about potential areas for cooperation between Belarusian and Egyptian scientists. “They show special interest in unmanned aerial vehicles and agricultural equipment. Egypt is a resort area, so they pay much attention to water purification, waste treatment, and we can help them with this. They are also interested in the processing of mineral raw materials, extraction of minerals, including gold, and we make and export powerful equipment for these purposes. New materials, mechanical engineering – we have a wide range of areas for cooperation,” Vladimir Gusakov noted.
“We appreciate the friendly relations between our countries. Belarusian companies are well-known in Egypt thanks to their high-quality products, including agricultural equipment. Bearing this is mind, we defined this area as a priority cooperation field. Water purification, materials science, and pharmaceutics are also important for us,” said Mahmoud Sakr, President of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. He pointed out that Belarus and Egypt maintain a high level of cooperation in science and technology and noted that during the visit of the Belarusian head of state to Egypt on 16 January 2017 the Belarusian Academy of Sciences and the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology signed an agreement on cooperation in science and technology.
The joint Belarusian-Egyptian seminar on cooperation in science and technology is running at the Belarusian Academy of Sciences on 11 May. The Egyptian delegation includes representatives of such research centers as Zewail City of Science and Technology, National Research Center, Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute, Agricultural Research Center, and the Ministry of Scientific Research. The seminar is considering promising areas of Belarusian-Egyptian cooperation in science and technology.
