Middle East Now is a festival on cinema, documentaries, short films, art and culture from the Middle East and North Africa, is organized by the no-profit cultural association Map of Creation.

The festival’s screening program includes feature films, documentaries, shorts and animated films produced between 2015 and 2017, and coming from Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Libya, Tunisia, Turkey, the UAE and Yemen.

The festival aims at introducing talented film directors who tell stories through beautiful movies, in order to present the real face of the Middle East.

The Iranian films to be screened at this year’s edition of the festival are ‘City As Art’ by Aliyar Rasti, ‘Pale Mirrors’ by Salem Salavati, ‘White House’ by Arastu Mafakheri, ‘Tamaroz’ (Simulation) by Abed Abest, ‘Parting’ by Navid Mahmoudi, and ‘Take Me Home’ by acclaimed, late Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

The festival will hand out two awards: the “Middle East Now Audience Award”, to the best film, and the “NYU Florence Best Short”, voted on by a jury from New York University in Florence.

The 8th Middle East Now film festival will be held in the Italian city of Florence, on 4-9 April 2017.
