The State Security Court at the UAE Federal Supreme Court on Monday sentenced K.A.H.T., a 21-year-old Emirati, to 10 years in jail on the charges of joining Daesh and other terrorist organisations in Syria, a court official told Gulf News.
The Abu Dhabi Appeals Court had last month sentenced K.A.H.T. to one year in jail, but the State Security Prosecution appealed the verdict. The case was heard on Monday and the court issued a final verdict.
The convict had already served one year in jail before the State Security Prosecution appealed the previous verdict.
The prosecution had accused him of joining the terrorist group Daesh and travelling to Syria to get trained in their camps and fight with them. He was also accused of defending the terrorist group’s ideologies, and promoting them on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
