Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) will open a hospital in Ramadi, Anbar province, western Iraq, a government official announced.

Member of the Anbar Provincial Council, Amal Al-Dulaimi told the Anadolu Agency: “A delegation from the organisation headed by MSF Regional Representative Terry Hyomeh visited Ramadi on Tuesday and was briefed on the deteriorating health situation in the city as a result of military and terrorist operations.”

He confirmed to the city’s mayor, Ibrahim Al-Awsaj, that doctors without borders plans to open a hospital in the region with Iraqi medical staff, Al-Dulaimi said.

If the security situation in Ramadi stabilises, French doctors will be sent to the hospital. The Iraqi security forces recaptured the city of Ramadi from Daesh at the end of last year.
